CIB Releases Schedule For Terre Haute Convention Center

Subscribe NowThe Vigo County Capital Improvement Board has released a preliminary schedule for the construction of a new convention center in downtown Terre Haute. Our partners at WTHI-TV report the $25 million venue could open by the summer of 2020.
The schedule was included in an agreement between the CIB and Arizona-based professional services development firm Nations Group, which will oversee the construction of the convention center. The CIB also altered the agreement to lower the projected overall cost from the original $75 million. The reduction is due to the project no longer including renovations to the Hulman Center at Indiana State University.
The location for the new convention center has not yet been released.
The city of Terre Haute and Vigo County have each committed $10 million toward the project. The Terre Haute Convention and Visitor’s Bureau will contribute the remaining $5 million, pending approval from the Vigo County Council to raise the county’s innkeeper’s tax rate from 6.5 percent to 8 percent.
Last week, the Vigo County Council approved a 1 percent food and beverage tax to help cover its portion of the cost. The new tax will go into effect September 1.
